With a history spanning more than 100 years, Georg Jensen is a Danish luxury brand representing quality craftsmanship and timeless aesthetics, crafting lifestyle products ranging from hollowware to watches, jewellery and design for the home.

The man behind the brand – Georg Jensen – was a silversmith and sculptor far ahead of his time in both skill and trade.

Georg Jensen was a master craftsman who believed anything was possible. With exquisite craftsmanship and a deep appreciation of the arts, Jensen pushed the boundaries of silver design, challenging the natural elements to create shapes with perfect symmetry. Born in 1866 in Raadvaad, a small settlement north of Copenhagen, Jensen quickly found his calling. After completing his education as a sculptor in 1892 at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, he spent the ensuing years travelling the world to hone his craft. Initially working with ceramics, he turned to silver in 1904, opening his own small studio in Bredgade, central Copenhagen. Here he mastered his profession, gaining widespread recognition for his elegant art deco jewellery. He opened stores across Europe – in Berlin, Stockholm, Paris and London. And in 1924 he opened the first US tore in New York. Jensen continued to build his legacy, his life’s work becoming a globally recognised brand, until his death at the age of 69 in 1935.

Today, his undying spirit and unique sense of quality and craftsmanship lives on and continues to define the Georg Jensen brand. Today, the old silversmith studio is located in Frederiksberg, employing over 20 working silversmiths.

New radiance

Elegance, outstanding quality and exquisite Danish design, the worldwide Georg Jensen brand today has more than 100 stores in 12 countries. The Copenhagen flagship store on the city’s main pedestrian street, Strøget, offers the full range of Georg Jensen gold, silver, platinum and diamond jewellery as well as timepieces, flatware, sterling silver hollowware and design items for the home and office – everything made with superior craftsmanship.

This season, Georg Jensen releases a carefully curated selection of iconic jewellery pieces from its fantastic archives. The unique trend collection comprises never-before-produced pieces from the 1960s and 70s that perfectly encapsulate contemporary design sensibilities with a nostalgic nod to the past.

The breathtaking beauty of nature resonates in these eye-catching examples of Georg Jensen’s masterful craftsmanship. Each piece reflects Georg Jensen’s enduring commitment to quality and form: Ibe Dahlquist’s enchanting bangle gently wraps around the wrist, its open sterling silver form undulating on its orbit. The stunning simplicity of Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe’s nature-inspired bracelets is manifested in sterling silver, set with polished black agate, cornelian or green agate; and Astrid Fog’s exotic sterling silver bangle and neck ring hold cascading sterling silver droplets, which fall flamboyantly from polished elliptical silver.

The exclusive collection is available by order only in selected flagship stores from March 2013.
