Connie Inge-Lise Nielsen was born in the village of Elling in Jutland in 1965 but grew up in Copenhagen. She showed a passion for acting from an early age. Her first acting experience came at the age of 15 when she appeared in a small-town revue, *Frederikshavns Møllerevy*, reportedly written by her mother. At the age of 18, Connie Nielsen travelled to Rome and Paris to study drama and had a chance minor part in the Italian film *Vacanze di Natale ‘91* (1992). In 1993, Connie Nielsen moved to New York where, following her debut in the TV thriller *Voyage*, she finally had her breakthrough as the Devil’s daughter in *The Devil’s Advocate* (1997). Here she featured alongside Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves. Over the next few years, Connie Nielsen could be seen in major mainstream movies, such as *Mission to Mars* (2000).
Connie Nielsen has since appeared in several Hollywood productions alongside some of the greatest stars in the US movie industry. In Ridley Scott’s blockbuster *Gladiator* (2000) she paired with Russell Crowe, in *One Hour Photo* (2002) she appeared with Robin Williams, and in *Basic* (2003) she played a hard-hitting officer opposite John Travolta. Apart from being a talented actress, Connie Nielsen is also an experienced singer and dancer and is currently engaged in a private *pas de deux* with fellow Dane and legendary Metallica percussionist, Lars Ulrich.
